Mommy duties

Posted by CHAT at 11:42 PM 0 comments
I will temporarily be absent in the blogosphere for a few months so I can focus on my mommy duties to the little princess. Please also pray for a successful operation as I'll be admitted tomorrow morning in Ospital ng Muntinlupa. The operation (caesarian delivery) will be on August 18, 2009 at 10 am.

Hello Baby

Posted by CHAT at 4:51 PM 0 comments

Yesterday, after lunch, my colleague and I braved the rain and went to Hello Baby it Bel-air. It was heaven for me. I was able to buy 4 blankets, 6 bibs, 3 burp pads, and 7 onesies. My total bill was PhP 1300 only. Cheap right? Pictures to follow as I was dead tired when I (together with the husband) arrived home.

Here’s the address for those who want to go: #48 Zodiac St. Bel-air 1, Makati City. You may want to call them at 8964802. They are open from 9am to 6pm daily (not sure during weekends though). Manang Vicky (the one who oversees the store) is so bait that she even gave us 10% off my total bill. She said new stocks usually arrives twice a month, on the 15th and before the end of the month.

Musings

Posted by CHAT at 6:05 PM 0 comments

I am on my 34th week now. If everything falls into place, I am scheduled for a CS operation on the 21st of August. Finally, the little princess will have her grand entrance. In my entire pregnancy, I never had problem with the leg cramps. I had only experienced it twice. The husband is so lucky that there is no need for me to wake him up in the middle of the night to assist me with this. On the other hand, I am now feeling severe round ligament pain. My groin area is always in pain. At night, I need to have a pillow between my legs to ease the pain. I sleep on my side now, but feeling such pain made me sleepless. I can’t turn my on my other side without growling in pain. Also, braxton hicks are getting intense now. If I haven’t experienced labor on my first pregnancy, I would have thought I am already in labor the past few days. The little girl is so active inside my tummy doing here somersaults.

I have already filed my maternity leave and will be effective on the 10th. I am really having a hard time now - moving and walking.  I still have a lot of things to do, especially the baby shopping part, LOL! We have covered almost all essentials sans the toiletries. The husband also has pending tasks – the most important one is general cleaning of the house.

Rants

Posted by CHAT at 5:17 PM 0 comments

DSC03193I was so happy when I blogged about this. The happiness I felt about having BPA-free bottles for the little princess became STRESS last week. Here’s what happened in details:

May 14 – I ordered Born Free products (2 5oz twin pack, 2 9oz twin pack and 1 twister brush). The delivery of the products could be by second week of June according to the seller.

May 15 – Deposited half of the total bill, it’s a pre-order anyway.

June 9 – Followed up as to when the ETA of the bottles. She said arrival of the bottles is on June 20.

June 18 – Deposited my remaining balance. The seller said she’ll have delivery on June 20 and 25.

June 22 – I followed up again (I’m makulit na here coz the husband is bugging me already, thinking I have been scammed. 5k isn’t a small amount.)

June 26 – The seller finally replied to my inquiry. She told me that the bottles are still not part of the delivery. Her supplier advised her that the bottles are out of stock since last week. She has an invoiced already and that new stocks will be coming next week. In this case, delivery here in PH will take two more weeks. On that same day, I agreed that I’ll wait for two more weeks. (See, I’m such a good buyer. I simply don’t want to get stressed out.)

July 9 – I followed up again. She said the delivery is on the way and it’ll arrive either on 15 or 16.

July 13/14 – I added Desitin cream on my order. This time I was planning to pay through paypal as she accepts such mode of payment na.

July 16 – Followed up again and replied afternoon. She’s asking for my shipping details and she told me there are scratches on the bottle and she’ll be sending me 1 9oz twin pack, 1 twister brush and 1 diaper rash cream only. She’ll return the others to her supplier daw.

This is the time I was irritated already. Asked him to be online so we can talk. Bagal kasi magreply sa email eh. I told her no, I can’t wait for the other bottles anymore. I was thinking of changing to Avent BPA should she have on-hand stocks of it. I told her to have it refunded, I don’t want the bottles anymore. In the end, I agreed to have what’s available to be shipped on my address and she refunded the rest of the money.

July 17 – My husband received the package. When I got home, I checked the bottles. It has scratches too :(

Lesson learned: Never buy anything pre-order.

Breastfeeding full time

Posted by CHAT at 5:52 PM 2 comments

When I had Joshua, I was able to exclusively breastfed him for two months only. When I returned to work, I had him formula fed during day time and breastfed during night time. When he reached six months, and right after he had UTI, he stopped latching on me. That was the start of his journey of formula feeding.

I'll be delivering the little princess via C-section in 6 weeks time. And like her kuya, she'll be more prone to infection, based on studies. So, I am 100% sure to breastfeed her for one year. Aside from all the good benefits she will have from it, mommy and daddy will save more :D

This will be my wishlist for my breastfeeding journey:

milktrays 1. Milktrays - Instead of using 4oz bottles for storage, these milktrays will be more convenient and will not eat a lot of space in the freezer. Available here.

avent on the go

2. Breastpump - This will be my ultimate companion / fairy for the success of my breastfeeding chronicle.

nursing bib

3. Nursing Bib - I have to have this as I'll be directly breastfeed her when we're out of the house.  Available here.

My OGTT ordeal

Posted by CHAT at 4:13 PM 0 comments

As what I have shared with you, I was 16-point higher than the normal range of glucose count for Asian people. So, to verify if I am diabetic or it’s because of my pregnancy, my OB advised me to take the 100gm oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).

From 4th of July to the 11th, I was in a rigid diet. Imagine my ordeal, me being pregnant and all, only allowed to eat half cup of rice plus chicken, fish or veggies (soup based) for one week. Having a sweet tooth, I was always craving for something sweet but I dare not taste one. Gawd! It was one hell of a week for me – a torture for me.

My last food intake come 10th of July was at 9pm, it was a glass of Anmum. I wasn’t able to wake at 10pm to have a light snack. We were in the hospital by 6:30am the next day.

The ask me to pee first and had my first blood extraction. Then I was given 240mL of too sweet orange juice, which I drink until the last drop with matching closed eyes. Yes, the taste was grossed I almost puke.

By 7am, I peed again and had my second extraction. By third extraction was at 8:30am, my fourth was at 9:30am and my last was at 10:30am.

The result was released at 2pm. We went home first than stay in the hospital that long, besides I am HUNGRY already. On our way home, I just had water after my very long fasting.

Finally, at 2pm the result showed:ogtt Yes, I am not DIABETIC! Thank God!!

We’re having a baby…

Posted by CHAT at 5:02 PM 2 comments

As I previously blogged here, I was supposed to have my US on the 15th of June. However, the fickle minded me kept on bugging the husband to have an ultrasound the soonest possible time. Since the husband knew I won’t stop not until he allows me, he finally agreed to have one. We had to look for another sonologist since Dr. Labios is out of the country and will be back on August.

After work, we met at Santana Grove and off we went to Bisomed right in front of Max’s Restaurant. Good thing, the Sonologist schedule will be until 6pm as we arrived there past 5pm. (I was telling the baby every time IT moves that we’ll be having an US and I need cooperation.)

The moment the probe touches my tummy, the husband and I definitely saw the baby’s gender. Of course, since we aren’t expert in reading images, we let the Sonologist do her job first. Afterwards, she asked us if we wanted to know the baby’s gender. It wasn’t hard for her to look for the genitals as the baby is in breech position.

We saw the baby’s anum and finally the baby’s gender. Too bad the Sonologist didn’t print the picture. I’ll definitely bug the husband to have a 3d/4d ultrasound once I hit my 28th week.

So much for my introduction…

Maternity support

Posted by CHAT at 6:09 PM 2 comments

I had my prenatal check-up last Saturday and I gained a whooping 4 lbs. From 120lbs, I am now officially 124 lbs heavy. My OB told me that my tummy looks like 7months already and from the look of it, the baby inside is 6 lbs heavy.

maternity-support-belt After which, I lied down to check the baby’s heartbeat. She commented that, indeed, my tummy looks deceiving as it’s all FAT. I told her that I really felt heavy already and she advised me to use a maternity support. And since I am starting to have cramps at night, she prescribed Vitamin B complex for me and I need to take twice a day. I’ll continue taking up OB Max (vitamins), Hemarate (iron supplement), Vitamin C and of course a glass of Anmum a day.

*I am schedule to have my ultrasound on the 15th. Excited as usual.

Postponed prenatal

Posted by CHAT at 5:47 PM 1 comments

I was supposed to have my prenatal check-up last Saturday and planned to ask my OB for an ultrasound referral to know my baby’s gender. However, seems the baby isn’t prepared yet as my OB wasn’t able to held clinic at Margareth. She was in OsMun and advised us to go back next week instead.

Oh well, the waiting game will take another week or so.

Kicking hard

Posted by CHAT at 11:59 PM 1 comments

The baby’s kicks are getting harder and harder every single day. It even gets harder when I feel full, that is, after lunch or dinner. I often hear myself say “ouch” as the baby often times kicks my navel. It’s really painful.

I have my prenatal checkup on Saturday. I bet my OB would scold me again as I gained 3lbs for this month. My bad, I love eating rice. The husband even told me to cut my rice intake as I might have gestational diabetes.

I felt so big now. I felt my tummy is going to explode. I can’t wait for three more months…

Leg cramps

Posted by CHAT at 5:26 PM 1 comments

I've been anticipating this to happen, but not too soon. But last night, I had my very first leg cramps for this pregnancy. Gawd! It was painful. Good thing the husband is easy to wake up as he's the one assisting me whenever I had one. I can even remember when I had Joshua, I had leg cramps while paying our groceries. The husband knelt on the floor to flex my ankle. He's so sweet.

According to BabyCenter

What is causing my painful leg cramps?

Your heart, kidneys, and circulatory system work extra hard to help you function normally during pregnancy, and your muscles, which are bearing the increasing weight of your pregnancy, feel the strain, too. So as a result, your tired leg muscles may seize up and cramp in protest, especially during your second and third trimester. The pain can wake you from a deep sleep.

Muscle fatigue isn't the only reason you may be suffering from leg cramps. Too much phosphorus (found in processed meat, snack foods, and soda) and too little calcium and potassium circulating in your blood can also cause muscle spasms.

And a third reason is that as your uterus expands, it can put pressure on the nerves leading from your trunk to your legs.

Is there anything I can do to stop it from happening?

Try our BabyCentre tip and eat a banana or drink a glass of milk before bed for a quick calcium and potassium boost. Don't take any herbal or vitamin supplements without first discussing it with a medical herbalist.

Here are some other tips for keeping muscle spasms at bay:

• Avoid standing or sitting with your legs crossed for long periods of time.
• Rotate your ankles and wiggle your toes when you sit, eat dinner, or watch TV.
• Stretch your calf muscles (see How to get rid of leg cramps, below) several times before you go to bed.

How to get rid of leg cramps

If you do get a cramp, stretch the muscle straight away. Straighten your leg, heel first, and gently flex your ankles and toes. It might hurt at first, but the pain will gradually go away. You can also relax the cramp by massaging the muscle or warming it with a hot-water bottle. Walking around for a few minutes may help, too.

If your muscle pain is constant and not just an occasional cramp, or if you notice swelling or tenderness in your leg, contact your doctor. In rare cases (one in 2,000) a pregnant woman can develop venous thrombosis, or a blood clot, which requires immediate medical attention.

Hold on tight

Posted by CHAT at 7:41 PM 1 comments

After seeing my ultrasound result Monday night, I worked half day yesterday to catch up my OB at St. Margareth’s. We discussed my condition. It was a little easy to understand what she was saying since I was able to check the web for my condition prior to my consultation. The size of the bleeding is still not alarming at 2cm so I can still go to work.

She prescribed a medicine for me that I need to take twice a day – pampakapit. On March 7, repeat of ultrasound will be done to check if the hemorrhage progressed or stopped. She advised me not to be stressed out at work, no carrying of heavy things – that includes the little boy. Sigh. Once I get to see spot (discharge), whether it’s brown or red, I need to advise her immediately. That means, I have to be in bed rest. Gawd!

Though that would mean boredom to me, I’d do everything for this pregnancy to progress. And like every other preggy mommies out there who wishes for the gender of their baby, I also would like to have mine a girl. However, with my situation now, I’d rather would not think of that yet. What is important for me and for hubby is for the baby to hold on tight….

First ultrasound result

Posted by CHAT at 4:36 PM 3 comments

I had my first ultrasound last night, pelvic as I am very sure I’m on my 12th week now. Apparently, the ultrasound results showed that I’m just on my 9th week. Weird…

The baby has heartbeat already but still little. What alarms me most is that the ultrasonologist saw. I had subchorionic hemorrhage.

Subchorionic Hemorrhage is bleeding behind the placenta, often caused by a clot.  In most cases, this clot will dissolve away, resolving the problem and allowing the pregnancy to progress normally.  It may take several weeks for this clot to dissolve.  Treatment for a Subchorionic hemorrhage is typically bed rest.

Rarely, the clot dissects between the placenta and the attachment to mother.  This may lead to placental abruption.  Risk factors that may increase the chance of experiencing this include high blood pressure, smoking and cocaine use.  Symptoms may include:

-  contractions that don't stop
-  pain in the uterus
-  tenderness in the abdomen over the uterus
-  vaginal bleeding

If you experience these symptoms, you should contact your physician immediately.  Treatment of placental abruption will vary according to your particular state.  If the separation of the placenta is small, the baby isn't in distress, and your condition is stable, you may be able to go home and continue the pregnancy with frequent checkups.  If the separation is moderate to severe but the baby is not in distress and your condition is stable, the doctor may induce labor and perform a vaginal delivery.  If the baby is in distress or if you are losing a lot of blood, the doctor will most likely deliver the baby immediately by cesarean section.

Got the info here.

I’ll be visiting my OB today to show the result of my ultrasound. I hope everything would be fine.

Baby's heartbeat

Posted by CHAT at 5:51 PM 0 comments

I had my prenatal check-up last Saturday at St. Margareth's. Joshua is in tow as I want him to appreciate and fully understand that there is really a baby coming soon.

Since I am already on the 12th week, my OB used a doppler to check my baby's heartbeat. At first, I was laughing out so loud so she let me finish my laughter first. Afterwards, she scans my tummy for five minutes but we failed to hear the baby's heartbeat.

Prior to that, I told her that I oftentimes feel pain in my upper right tummy. She told me that the pain might be something relevant or irrelevant. I am scheduled for an ultrasound today.

I am fervently praying that my pregnancy isn't ectopic and that my nine months will be safe.

1 more month

Posted by CHAT at 3:55 PM 0 comments

When I was still pregnant with my first born, I had a very difficult time during the my first trimester. I can even recall my OB telling me to eat or else I’ll get confined in the hospital. Well, I do eat a lot then. The only problem is I puke right after I ingest the food. And it was always all the time. Whether I’m at home or dining outside, you’ll see me rushing to the nearest restroom after eating.

Now, I do still puke after eating but not as worst as before. I have a sensitive sense of smell though. Most of the time, I get irritated with various smell whether it’s a cologne or simply the smell of our room.

Also, I felt sick all the time. I would have wanted to lie on the bed if I don’t have a job. The cold makes me feeling more sick.

One more month and the first trimester is over. Hopefully by then, I can experience the joys of being pregnant.

P-O-S-I-T-I-V-E

Posted by CHAT at 9:02 PM 0 comments

positive My monthly period is erratic, so being delayed for 2 months is sort of common to us. It was just last Jan 5 when I bought a pregnancy test kit. It was night time when I tested and when I saw 2 lines, I told hubby "Sabi ko sayo buntis ako eh. Ayan oh (pointing to the kit), dalawang line."

The husband, at first was in denial, telling me to buy another kit to double check. But I insisted I am pregnant. By then, we started to introduce the baby to Kuya Joshua.
